Known simply as “Quonnie” for short (or “kwahn-uh-con-tahg” for the linguistically gifted), Quonochontaug is a hidden seaside gem that borders the Atlantic along the south coast of the state. Comprised of a number of fire districts (East Beach, West Beach, and Central Beach), Quonnie residents have the privilege of not only enjoying some of the cleanest and most serene beaches in the state, but access to numerous salt ponds also, which provide excellent fishing and boating. Sail through the breachways on both Quonochontaug Pond and Ninigret Pond for access to the Atlantic and beyond.
